Carlos Extra Thin Hawaiian Pizza (Review #3)

Carlos Extra Thin Crispy Base Hawaiian Pizza

Today's frozen pizza review took us to Glasgow's Aldi on High Street which had on display an excellent amount of frozen pizza options. Last year this Aldi was my local, so I knew its ins and outs and what I wanted was the Hawaiian Pizza that I had become so used to in 2021.  However, it had been replaced by the newer 'Carlos Extra Thin Crispy Base Hawaiian Pizza'. Which to me just read as; less pizza than I would've got a year ago. Despite this knockback, I still opted for the new-born Extra Thin Hawaiian at £1.79, as it was the closest to what I was craving.

Frozen Pizza Nutrition

As a Hawaiian pizza, the toppings obviously featured ham and pineapple. Sitting below the main toppings were mozzarella and edam cheese with a tomato base. Edam really stuck out to me as a cheese I never really see on pizza. Serving size was smaller than I would like, but it's an extra thin pizza, so no surprises there, as with last weeks I would recommend a side to accompany. The nutritional values are fairly lower than the standard for a frozen pizza, apart from salt content which stands at 4.02g (34%RI) which is around average from my experience.

Eating the Frozen Pizza

At first look, this was a good-looking pizza and the first bite was lovely. However, the aftertaste on the pizza is horrible; the pineapple tastes like it had been tinned for five years and the base was oddly doughy. On top of this it lacked a sufficient amount of cheese, and the tomato base was also sweet. I’m a big fan of pineapple on pizza but this one really isn’t for me. 'Carlos Extra Thin Crispy Base Hawaiian Pizza' gets a very disappointing 4.3/10. That places the pizza at a 5.53 on the quality for price scale.

  1. In my opinion you need to use a preheated oven with a pizza stone to cook Carlos extra thin and crispy pizzas.
I have not tried this particular pizza, however I know what you mean about the sweet tomato paste which is on thieir cheese pizza, it's revolting.
My favorite from Aldi is the American Hot version, which sadly has been unavailable for monts.
